Iris House is a vibrant charity committed to enriching the quality of life for Special Needs children and young people with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and providing support for their families. We are based in Cape Town’s Northern suburbs where we provide quality care in our children’s homes.

During 2013 we have two main aims. The first being to increase the size of our care team so we can provide more community support and care at the homes of families. We also aim to find a suitable property for our Hospice, so we can start offering overnight; day and weekend care for our children.

Life with a special needs child is all consuming; our parents have to put their lives on hold and that of their other children to care for their child. Iris House provides respite for the family, allowing them “if only for a short time” to do the things we take for granted, like go out for a meal, movie or just a walk on the beach.

Equipment and medical supplies for our children are very expensive, allot of the necessary items are just not covered by medical aid, and some of our families don’t have medical aid.  A simple bath lift cost over R14 000.00 and a life saving suction machine R5000. Iris House also raises funds to purchase equipment and supplies for our families.
