In November we launched our new surfing program for the children from Iris House, because we believe in improving the quality of life of our children by enabling them to experience and enjoy what usually only abled people can. This was only possible because there are people out there that find the human in them and love to help and share their heart and skill. The program found its start at the Iris House de Vere Acuma Ball with an anonymous donor donating R25 000 to purchase our own adapted wet suits, SUP, boards and life jackets.
Irina Mink who is not only our amazing photographer but also a member of our fundraising team and board co ordinated all the purchases with Reef and of course made available her fantastic Surf Dog Leia who has visited Iris House on many occasions and is amazing with our children on the boards.
Our Surfing coach Albert spread the word and made sure that we were fully supported both in and out the water, we used the beautiful Stand beach with its amazing warm water and the turnout was nothing short of fantastic. Tessa and Christian had a blast!
A HUGE thank you to Albert and Irina for organising such a successful event and also to all the volunteers on the day that made the event possible:

The siblings and friends also got a special treat from the Bartleman Brothers receiving a free surf lesson after which they managed to ride a wave.
We will be meeting on the 20th of December to discuss dates for the summer seasons sessions and hope to achieve 50 children enjoying the ocean before Summer is out.
A comment from Mom Deonette, who’s daughter Tessa was one of our surfers sums things up perfectly – “Deonette De Swardt Schäfer Incredible photos of an amazing day filled with so many special people who made this possible today- it really felt like Xmas to us! A day of ( safe) fun in the sun that our family will never forget! Surfing, lessons, T- shirts, safety, dedication, warm hearts, warm towels & blankets & booties , the caring never stopped for a minute. Thank you Iris House and all the many volunteers for these precious moments – the memories we will cherish forever🌊🏄🏻♂️🏄♀️👌 “
