Thursday the 16th of October Iris House held a parent and family support group at the Mfuleni Library. This was the first event of it’s kind we have held at the venue but most certainly not the last. Our new Social Worker Yandi and our Mfuleni care team explained to parents exactly what services Iris House Children’s Hospice can provide, how people can access our services and what our aims in the area are. Parents were very excited at the announcement of our roll out in Mfuleni, and gave us feedback on what training they are needing to best assist their children. What was very inspiring is that we had new family referrals brought to the meeting and a sister NPO Uhambo Foundation in attendance. Iris House has definitely “found it’s grove” in Mfuleni. We have requested use of the Library meeting room every Thursday and Friday afternoon for 2015 (fingers crossed) this will then allow our team to train parents and carers and to have meeting place for our new families. A big thank you to our training sponsors Grand Slots, for supporting us with our training expenses (without you this would not be possible) Sugarloaf-Bakers for the yummy muffins, Carmel Nikiforou from Shezen for spoiling our Mom’s with hand massage’s. See all the photos on our Facebook page WELL DONE Iris House Team!
