Our main aim is to train and equip, safety and foster parents to empower them to care for Special Needs Children in need. The problem of children being abandoned, neglected, and abused is not a new one, however, Special Needs Children are four times more likely to become victims of abuse than ” A ” typical children. Iris House Children’s Hospice maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding child abuse. We need you, the public to speak out if you encounter child abuse, or suspect a child is being neglected. Our mandate is to provide current and new safety/foster parents with the skills necessary to care for special needs children. This is not just a once-off training but is ongoing so as we can prevent breakdowns of placements. Iris House also provides practical support in the form of respite care at the safety/foster parent’s home as well as follow-up training, and support in the form of nappies and food parcels.
