Hospice Respite Care

At Iris House, our hospice respite sessions are designed to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children with life-limiting illnesses, while also offering respite to their families. These sessions, which take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, as well as one Saturday per month, are carefully structured to accommodate the unique needs and preferences of each child in attendance.

During our hospice respite sessions, we ensure that every child receives personalised care and attention. Our team consists of a registered nurse and one carer dedicated to each child, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout the session. The registered nurse oversees the medical needs of the child, administering medication, monitoring vital signs, and providing any necessary medical interventions. The carer focuses on providing emotional support, engaging in activities, and addressing the child’s specific needs.

Each session is structured in a way that suits the children attending, taking into account their abilities, interests, and energy levels. We offer a range of activities and experiences tailored to their individual preferences, such as arts and crafts, music therapy, sensory play, storytelling, equine therapy, and outdoor exploration. Our aim is to create a joyful and engaging atmosphere where children can have fun, socialise with peers, and experience a sense of normalcy despite their medical challenges.

Furthermore, our hospice respite sessions are not only beneficial for the children but also provide much-needed respite for their families. Caring for a child with a life-limiting illness can be emotionally and physically demanding. By entrusting their child to our dedicated team, parents and caregivers can take a break, tend to their own needs, or spend quality time with their other family members. We understand the importance of respite for the overall well-being of the entire family unit, and our sessions aim to provide a safe and supportive space for that purpose.

At Iris House, we are committed to creating an environment of compassion, understanding, and care for both the children and their families. Our hospice respite sessions serve as a valuable resource for families, offering them a moment of respite while ensuring that their child receives exceptional care and attention.
