Hospice Respite Care

Our hospice day sessions run on a Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday (half-day session)  Each session has a maximum of six children, with a carer allocated per child. Sessions are structured to include circle time, arts and crafts, sensory room engagement, outdoor play, storytelling, and where applicable equine therapy.

All medical care is performed by our nurse/hospice manager. Diaper changes and personal care is conducted in the privacy of our change room. All play areas and bedrooms are monitored by camera and each room has smoke detectors.

A full handover is completed at the start of each session or on collection in the community providing the most up to date information on each child. Carers complete care notes throughout the day documenting all activities, food consumed, etc.

Families without access to transport can request to have their child collected by our seven-seater “minibus” our driver has his PDP certification and level 3 first aid. A carer is also in the vehicle to ensure the safety of the children.

A summary of the child’s activities for the day is sent home with your child and when available we also send a food hamper from our sponsor Woolworths.

Our hospice overnight service  “Date Night” is available one Friday evening per month. The session starts at 6 pm. In the morning the children then join the Saturday morning session to be collected or transported home after 1 pm, providing our parents with much needed time to recharge. A home-cooked evening meal is provided and the same hand over procedure is followed. The session is headed by our hospice nurse/manager and up to 6 children can be accommodated. We have separate sleeping and changing areas for under and over 18’s. Each child or young adult has their own carer who is by their side the entire evening.
